Thibaut Courtois is set to miss Real Madrid’s Super Cup clash with Atletico Madrid on Wednesday evening, according to reports in Spain. The Belgium international completed his £35 million move from Chelsea to the Santiago Bernabeu last week. Courtois has travelled with Real Madrid’s squad to Estonia for their Super Cup tie against Atletico on Wednesday and was expected to make his official debut. The 26-year-old also trained with his Madrid teammates on Tuesday evening at the Lillekuela Stadium in Tallinn. But Cadena COPE reports that Courtois will not feature against Atletico as he has not been registered with UEFA to play in the competition.

Simeone has told everyone who will listen in recent years that Atleti are competing at a level below Real and Barcelona.
In terms of budget and squad strength, that was probably true, too. Their rivals, he often said, were Valencia, Sevilla and Villarreal. But not now.
Having held on to Antoine Griezmann despite solid interest from Barca and brought back Diego Costa last January, Atletico have gone on to add several more fine footballers to their ranks this summer.
Midfielder Rodri is in the Sergio Busquets mould and will give Atleti a more technical and creative presence in midfield than their indefatigable former captain Gabi, while Thomas Lemar and Gelson Martins are exciting additions for the wings and Nikola Kalinic is a shrewd acquisition to provide support for Costa and Griezmann.Defensively, Diego Godin remains one of the very best around and his partnership with Jose Gimenez is a guarantee for both club and country. And behind those two, Jan Oblak is arguably the world’s greatest goalkeeper.
Filipe Luis and Lucas Hernandez are two excellent left-backs, with the latter also able to play centrally, while the club will have high hopes for Colombia’s Santiago Arias on the right following the departure of Some Vrsaljko.And in midfield, Koke, Saul and Thomas are all outstanding talents. It is not a huge squad, but there is strength all over the pitch and that should see last season’s Europa League winners able to compete in La Liga and in the Champions League.
